Lora Murphy leads this transformative journey exploring oil and cold wax painting with a focus on expressive, layered portraiture set against the stunning serenity of the Himalayas. The twelve-day retreat begins in the colourful chaos of Kathmandu, where you will visit the Monkey Temple, explore the ancient kingdoms of Patan and Bhaktapur, and witness art created by disabled artists at Bodhisattvas in Action. You will then travel to Pokhara at the foot of the mighty Annapurna range, painting on terraces overlooking Phewa Lake with the sacred Machapuchare Mountain reflected in its waters. The workshop blends technical exploration with soulful expression, emphasising play, texture and experimentation, perfect for artists eager to explore abstraction and develop deeper creative confidence. This culturally immersive experience includes an opportunity to exhibit your work with the Nepal Academy of Fine Art, donating wheelchairs to disabled artists, and connecting with Nepali artists and communities.

Lora Murphy was born in Ireland and trained as an oil painter in Florence, Italy, after earning honours degrees in History of European Painting and Archaeology. Now working primarily in encaustic and mixed media, she founded Essence of Mulranny Studios in County Mayo and leads painting retreats worldwide, opening doors of opportunity and connecting people with kindness wherever she goes.
