Claire and Angie are artists, educators and co-founders of Art Retreats Algarve, united by a shared belief that creativity should be inspiring, accessible and meaningful. Claire has lived in Lagos for the past seven years with her husband, Craig. Her work sits between abstraction and figuration, drawing inspiration from the Algarve's landscape, still life, memory, storytelling, interiors and emotional experience. Built through layering and intuitive mark-making, her paintings develop slowly, revealing unexpected connections, atmosphere and narrative as they unfold. Angie lives in nearby Burgau with her husband, Greg, and their two sons, Olie and Charlie. Inspired by the colours, textures and natural beauty that surround her, her work reflects two complementary artistic passions, moving between peaceful, nature-inspired paintings and bold, expressive works rich in colour, texture and intuitive mark-making. Together, Claire and Angie bring complementary experience in art education, professional studio practice and creative teaching. Selected retreats also feature guest tutors, bringing additional skills, specialist knowledge and different perspectives. Their shared approach combines the depth and structure of an art school with the inspiration of a creative retreat, balancing practical teaching with experimentation, individual guidance, warmth and encouragement. Whether you are taking your first steps or developing an established artistic practice, they are passionate about helping people build confidence, explore new techniques and enjoy the process of making art in the beautiful surroundings of the Algarve.
