Combining daily practical writing and editing workshops with immersive cultural experiences, the retreat offers participants guidance in fiction and creative non-fiction through hands-on teaching techniques and individual critiques rather than theoretical lectures. Award-winning guest authors lead sessions on character development, plot techniques, flash fiction and memoir writing, whilst also sharing professional insights into the publishing world. Beyond the studio, participants explore a landscape steeped in Celtic legend through ferryboat trips to Gola Island (said to have inspired Robert Louis Stevenson's Treasure Island), visits to a hundred-year-old thatched cottage for Irish language and ceildhe dancing lessons, tours of Glenveagh National Park and its turreted castle, and exclusive traditional Irish music performances. The retreat is based at Teac Jack, a family-owned boutique hotel facing the islands, where the silver slopes of Mount Errigal and the rugged coastline provide constant inspiration for writers seeking both craft development and cultural immersion in this Irish-speaking Gaeltacht region.
